Excellent tour guides are the key to providing once-in-a-lifetime experience. After Canada was granted the Approved Destination Status from China in 2010, Chinese visitations to Canada have been increasing every year. As a result, our industry faces a shortage of professional Chinese speaking tour guides who can provide excellent service to the Chinese visitors. To provide a solution, Canadian Inbound Tourism Association - Asia Pacific (CITAP) launched its first Chinese Speaking Tour Guide Training Workshop early this year.

The initial workshop was held in Richmond from March 20 to 31, 2017 and 27 students attended the program. We received positive feedback on the workshop -- from our students, Chinese RTOs and tourism partners, and many are inquiring when the next workshop will be held. Currently, we are in discussion with our RTO members on the type of workshops that are needed in their sector, so stay tuned!

“With the announcement that 2018 will be the year of China-Canada tourism, there couldn’t be a better time for this program,” said Emmanuelle Legault, Destination Canada’s Vice-President, International. "As Canada looks forward to welcoming more Chinese visitors than ever before, it is great to see that they will be extended the warm, inclusive Canadian welcome we offer all our travellers.”

Comments from students:
"This was an excellent workshop and we need more of this."
"I really enjoy the different courses and wouldn't mind to pay more to have a longer workshop so we can cover more including the field trips."
"I would highly recommend this to my friends!"
"This program was a long time coming! We really need this type of workshops in our industry and seeing this was very encouraging. We want to see more, not just for one market but also for other markets as well." - David Lin, President of GS Travel Ltd.
